Job Summary:
Stretchline Holdings Ltd., a world-renowned name in textile component manufacturing, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager – Engineering to lead engineering and maintenance operations at our Biyagama plant. This role is pivotal in ensuring optimal performance of machinery, managing engineering resources, and driving continuous improvement through strategic implementation of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and capital upgrade initiatives.
This is a key leadership role, tasked with optimizing production uptime, managing a multidisciplinary team, and ensuring engineering excellence within a fast-paced, globally integrated environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Machinery Uptime & Maintenance Oversight
- Lead and supervise all maintenance activities to ensure minimal breakdowns and maximum equipment uptime.
- Monitor the mechanical and electrical systems to ensure high operational efficiency.
- Provide expert technical advice to mechanical and electrical maintenance teams.
- Ensure machinery standards meet the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) schedule and operational requirements.
- Monitor critical machine performance indicators and initiate corrective actions when required.
2. Team Performance Management & Development
- Develop, guide, and manage a team of engineers and technicians to achieve departmental KPIs.
- Conduct performance evaluations, identify training needs, and create development plans for engineering staff.
- Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment that drives innovation and problem-solving.
- Liaise with HR and senior management for resource planning and skill-gap analysis.
3. Maintenance Scheduling & Service Coordination
- Ensure scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance is executed effectively.
- Coordinate with internal departments, external vendors, and service agents to minimize operational disruptions.
- Maintain up-to-date records of all maintenance activities and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Implement digital tools and systems for better visibility and tracking of service schedules.
4. Engineering Budgeting & Resource Management
- Prepare the annual engineering budget including CAPEX and OPEX.
- Monitor monthly budget utilization and optimize cost efficiency.
- Procure spare parts, tools, and engineering materials in line with budget forecasts and operational needs.
- Maintain adequate inventory levels to support continuous operations without excess cost.
5. Machinery Upgrades & TPM Implementation
- Spearhead the upgrade of legacy machinery and equipment through well-planned investment strategies.
- Collaborate with global technology partners and internal stakeholders for equipment trials and commissioning.
- Drive factory-wide TPM initiatives with a focus on safety, efficiency, and reliability.
- Evaluate performance data and feedback to continuously enhance TPM practices.
6. Additional Responsibilities
- Take ownership of cross-functional projects and other duties as assigned by management.
- Ensure strict compliance with internal engineering protocols, environmental standards, and health & safety regulations.
- Participate in audits, ISO documentation, and engineering-related compliance processes.
Qualifications and Experience:
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred).
- Master’s Degree or MBA would be considered an asset.
- Certifications in TPM, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma highly desirable.
Professional Experience:
- 5–6 years of progressive experience in a plant engineering environment.
- At least 2 years of proven experience in a managerial or leadership capacity.
- Demonstrated success in leading maintenance and engineering teams in a high-volume manufacturing setup.
- Experience with TPM frameworks, CMMS systems, and CAPEX planning.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems used in textile or manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in using engineering software and maintenance management tools.
- Familiarity with safety regulations, ISO standards, and machinery compliance requirements.
